She was born Oct. 25, 1930 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.At the age of 22, she met the love of her life, John (Yiannis) Athens, in the village of Karteroli.Catherine is survived by her children, Tina Perkins, Stravroula Joanne Bostanzoglou and son-in-law Joseph and Bill Athens. She was preceded into heaven by her son Dr. Rafael Athanasopoulos.Her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life and she leaves behind her beloved Nicholas and Adrienne, John and Katina, Katherine and Tyler Ioannis, Bill and Lindsay Katherine, Johnny, Yianni, Lukas and great-granddaughter Katherine.“Mama/Yiayia you will stay eternally in our hearts.”Family and friends are invited to visit 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Chapel of the Highlands, 194 Millwood Drive in Millbrae, with the Trisiagon at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 999 Brotherhood Way in San Francisco. Interment will be at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma.Donations are appreciated to Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org, to help find a cure. (San Mateo Daily Journal)
